About five years ago, EVA PAVLIČ SEIFERT and ALJAŽ CELARC moved to a remote village on the southern border with Croatia, which is known to have some of the longest and coldest winters in Slovenia. There they kick-started their project called House Mandrova by completely renovating an old abandoned house. It followed their decision to leave the big city life and start living differently, much closer to nature. Preserving the local cultural heritage is really important to them. House Mandrova’s community-oriented vision goes hand in hand with nature without the pressure of social norms. The contents of today's SPOTLIGHT (as part of RTV Slovenia's 'Mission Young cohesion' project) were made possible with financial support from the EU. Responsibility for the contents lies entirely with the author/editorship, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.

EU leaders backed the European Commission plans for a “temporary dynamic price corridor on natural gas transactions”, as well as joint gas purchasing and solidarity rules among EU countries facing an emergency. Laws to make all this happen still have to be negotiated, but EU's Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the steps made are a clear roadmap for the future. However, there was no final decision on an EU price cap on Russian natural gas, due to energy concerns by some EU countries. Photo: Reuters

Pope Francis kicked off a week-long trip to Canada on Monday to ask Indigenous peoples for forgiveness. He asked for forgiveness on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church for the abuse endured by indigenous children at church-run residential schools across the country. Between 1881 and 1996 more than 150,000 indigenous children were separated from their families and brought to government-funded residential schools. Many children were starved, beaten and sexually abused. More than 3,000 are thought to have died at the schools. Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission called the system a "cultural genocide" against the Indigenous people.

Tap water will not be potable, which means it will have to be boiled before drinking. The restrictions are the result of escalating droughts and a further decline of available water resources, especially in the Koper area and the coastal-Karst region. Photo: KGZS
