The Security Council adopted two resolutions. Slovenia voted for both. The first calls for a ceasefire during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the second calls for extending the mandates of the experts overseeing the sanctions against Sudan. The UN is launching a new flash appeal for humanitarian aid today for Palestinians. It hopes to raise 1.2 billion US dollars to help both Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The figure is a huge increase from the previous appeal it made in October, but the UN says it reflects the "increasingly desperate" situation on the ground. The funds will go towards supplying and restoring food, water, health, and shelter in the occupied regions. Photo: Reuters
