What happens when humans build the first underwater structure in the sea designed exclusively for nature? In the Bay of Piran, the Sea Oasis Piran has been created — a five-storey concrete structure that has become home to fish, shellfish, and crustaceans. The documentary follows its creation, the demanding underwater installation, and the miracle of life that began to inhabit it within just a few days.
“After only three days, the first schools of frater seabream arrived,” says biologist Lean Fonda. “Every dive is a surprise, you always discover something new,” adds project co-author Dr Irena Fonda. Underwater photographer Arne Hodalič emphasises: “The structure makes it possible for a new story to begin on what was once completely bare seabed.”
Sea Oasis Piran thus stands as a cradle of new life and proof that humans can work with the sea, rather than merely intervene in it.
